Usually in the summer when most people have whittled down and are strutting around town in slinky summer attire, I am busting seams left and right after gorging on my favourite ice cream treats...I can't help myself, I blame it on the heat!! These homemade Nutty Cones will definitely help you get through any heat wave but just make sure you wear something with a little "give" after a few of these decadent little gems!

Since th...

I don't know about you, but after the Thanksgiving feast(s), the heavier autumn desserts and the hundreds of Halloween chocolate bars that I have consumed, I'm kinda craving some fruit! I don't think I need to point out the fact that my fruit is also smothered in a creamy white chocolate sauce but the point is, at least it's fruit! Ha!

This light dessert is really quick and easy to make and a perfect ending to a comforting fa...

Although I am not a huge fan of a sticky, hot heat wave, I do love summer for other reasons such as cool, still mornings, hazy summer evenings, meadows of wildflowers and sweet, juicy peaches that are just perfect to make this classic, porch sittin' treat!

Smooth and velvety, this custard based ice cream is cool, refreshing and just what the doctor ordered on muggy, hot days when you have no...

When it's hot (or cold), I am always a sucker for ice cream...for the sake of my thighs, I really should lay off it but this no bake ice cream cookie cake is too damn good and it's perfect for weather like this because you don't have to turn on the oven!

I'm just glad that I have neighbours that are willing to take leftovers off my hands when I frantically drive over yelling "don't let me eat anymore!!"...

Fresh, seasonal strawberries and rhubarb come together perfectly in this old time fruit crisp. I remember helping my Mom pick strawberries in the hot, summer sun but there were no complaints from me because I knew that it was just a matter of time before she would head into the kitchen with our bounty and produce jars of sweet jam, pies and this strawberry/rhubarb crisp!

A scoop or two of vanilla ice cream was always a welcom...

Ice cream has always kind of been my "thing"...a family thing really...my brother and I used to have "roll in the dirt" fist fights over it and I would cut grass and work after school on the neighbour's farm, just to blow all of my hard earned money when Mert, the ice cream man would come around! Times haven't changed much, except now, I might try to control my portions a little. These easy to make ice cre...

Lemon curd is a soft, custard-like preserve that is sweet and tart at the same time and is easy as pie to whip up and about as versatile as duct tape!

Made from juicy lemons, sugar, fresh eggs and butter...it is terrific on Angel Food cake, scones, shortbread or sugar cookies...used as a filling for danish pastry or tarts and is excellent on toast or English muffins.

To make this tangy treat, you will...

March 2, 2016

Since it is March 1st., I thought I would get a head start on my St. Patrick's Day posts and make these festive Jell-O cups...and because Isabel and I wanted to eat the jelly powder!

These Jell-O jars are very easy to make, but a little time consuming since each layer needs to set up before moving on to the next. You will need: 10 (250 ml.) jam jars (there are only 6 showing in the pic but you will need 10), pu...

My Dad isn't really what I call a "sweet tooth", but every now and then, he does love good homemade, old school favourites like raisin pie, buttertarts and of course, rich and creamy rice pudding. I can remember if we had leftover rice, my Mom would whip up this classic treat for my Dad, while my brother and I would ask what we were going to have for dessert?! Usually, Mom would explain that "this isn't a short order restaura...

I remember every year, the whole family would go to my Uncle Bill and Aunt Dorothy's house for Christmas. Everyone eagerly awaited the arrival of my Gramma...not only because she was the best Gramma ever, but because she was in charge of making this rich, steamed carrot pudding loaded with fruit. Back then, I couldn't stand this dessert, but she would still make me eat a bit, saying  "it's Christmas, you little rascal!" I wou...
